Think Black dance and you think James Brown. Michael Jackson. Usher. And you wouldn't be wrong. But do you know who was called the Queen Mother of Black dance? Do you know whose dance company has performed for more than 21 million people in 48 states and 71 countries on six continents? What is Black dance anyway? How does it tell the stories and feelings we all have in common? In this interactive performance, the August Wilson Center Dance Ensemble invites us to explore these questions and discover the OTHER giants of Black dance: Katherine Dunham, Carmen de Lavallade, Alvin Ailey and Ulysses Dove.
