Tamara Tunie never does anything by half measure.  From her starring roles in films such as FLIGHT with Denzel Washington, 18 seasons on LAW AND ORDER: SVU, lead roles in AMC’s DIETLAND, Netflix’s BLACK EARTH RISING and in the Sundance Channel series THE RED ROAD,  to roles in the theater, like  Prospero in THE TEMPEST, Sharon in THE ROOMMATE, Calpurnia in JULIUS CEASAR , and Michelle in DREAMGIRLS; or as the Tony Award winning producer for SPRING AWAKENING. And when she reignited her singing career at FEINSTEIN’S in NYC just after Hurricane Sandy, one critic wrote, “Tamara Tunie restored the sparkle to New York City and gave the definitive answer “YES I SING”.

Another critic wrote “She’s a song stylist who’s comfortable singing everything from Chuck Mangione’s “Land of Make Believe” to Victor Young and Jack Elliot’s “A Weaver of Dreams”. There was “Standing Room Only” at the end of the Feinstein’s run, despite a New York City still reeling from the hurricane.

Her previous show, “Legends from the Burgh”, at NYC’S 54 Below found her “singing to packed standing room only crowd where she not only sang an unforgettable evening of jazz, but gave the audience a noteworthy history lesson.”  Two years ago, she brought that eveing of music to CITY THEATRE COMPANY, right here in the Burgh!

Ms. Tunie has performed with many of the most incomparable musicians, and has helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Penn State University Allegheny County’s Student Scholarship Fund, with her performances at ALL THAT’S JAZZ!  She has graced the stage of the beautiful state of the art MADISON THEATRE, performed for the Mabel Mercer Foundation at TOWN HALL, and, also, at SYMPHONY SPACE, bringing down the house with music from Billie “Lady Day” Holiday to Cole Porter.  A critic wrote, “Tunie SWINGS, sings great, looks great!”

Having studied classically and with a BFA in Musical Theatre from Carnegie Mellon University, Ms. Tunie added jazz several years ago and has performed at the legendary ALLEN   ROOM at JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER.

About Paul Jost:

When describing the unique vocalist and arranger Paul Jost, two words come to mind … “passionate storyteller”. Paul is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger but it is his work as a vocalist that makes him a standout. Both critics and contemporaries alike say he is one of the best male jazz vocalists since Mark Murphy.

Paul’s newest album is “Simple Life” with his quartet including Jim Ridl-piano; Dean Johnson-bass; and Tim Horner-drums. Special guest on the album is vibraphonist Joe Locke on four songs. The songs included on “Simple Life” not only look back, paying tribute to the tradition, they also look forward reaching outside the traditional boundaries of the genre. On the album, he takes his hand to a number of standards from the jazz repertoire bringing a fresh approach while at the same time respecting their history and place in the American Songbook.

Paul has performed worldwide with recent tours in Asia and Europe. Back home in the U.S, Paul is making his mark in New York with an ongoing residency at the internationally acclaimed jazz club 55 Bar, a two-month stint in 2017 at SMOKE performing with Orrin Evans, guest appearances with vibraphonist Joe Locke at Dizzy's Coca Cola Club at the Lincoln Center in April 2018 and performances at such popular clubs as Mezzrow, Jazz at Kitano’s and more. He can be seen regularly on Festival stages including recent performances at Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival and Exit Zero Jazz Festival.

After a long career as an instrumentalist and sideman having recorded and performed with Billy Eckstine, Mark Murphy, Dr. John, Bucky Pizzarelli, Joe Farrell and Ron Carter to name just a few, Paul launched his solo vocal career in 2014 with the release of his debut vocal album “Breaking Through”. Included in that album is “Book Faded Brown,” a composition he wrote that was recorded by The Band, Rick Danko and Carl Perkins.

In 2015, in honor of the 40^th Anniversary of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run”, Paul was commissioned by Michael Kline of Exit Zero Jazz Festival to interpret this iconic album in Jazz and headline at the festival. This performance was so well received that in 2016 he recorded it live at The Bitter End in New York.

With his reputation as a vocalist growing, Paul was recently showcased on PBS-TV in a profile feature in the Friday Arts series titled "Finding Your Voice". Paul's follow-up release to “Breaking Through” titled “Simple Life” is due out in the Spring of 2019 with his quartet featuring Jim Ridl-piano, Dean Johnson-bass and Tim Horner-drums. The album also features Joe Locke as special guest on a number of tracks.

Looking forward, Paul will be performing the material from his new CD at venues throughout the United States and Europe in support of the release.
